Steven Weisz Featured in Bankruptcy & Restructuring Roundtable

Steven Weisz participated in CorporateLiveWire's Bankruptcy & Restructuring 2024 Virtual Round Table.

Steve concentrates his practice on commercial litigation and insolvency law. Bringing over three decades of experience as a leader in his field, Steve skillfully guides his clients through all aspects of complex domestic and multinational insolvencies.

Steve prides himself on taking a pragmatic, cost-efficient approach to even the most complex multidimensional and multidisciplinary issues. He regularly represents purchasers of distressed debt and assets, debtors, directors, court-appointed officers, and major stakeholders of insolvent businesses  often, on an urgent basis.

Prior to joining the firm, Steve was a founding member of Weisz Fell Kour, a boutique law firm providing services exclusively in commercial restructuring, litigation, and business law in Toronto. Before founding his firm, Steve was a leader of the insolvency and restructuring group at a national law firm.

Steve has been recognized as a leader in insolvency law by Chambers and Partners, Lexpert, Best Lawyers, ILFR, and Who's Who Legal. He is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC) and the IIC's Social Media and Intervention Committees. He is general editor of the National Creditor Debtor Review, as well as a former executive of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and past president of the Toronto Chapter of TMA. He regularly speaks at industry conferences and seminars on insolvency law and litigation matters, participates in the mentoring program at the University of Toronto Law School, and is a guest lecturer for the LLM Commercial Law program at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Steve earned his LL.B. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, and his B.A. in economics and Math from the University of Toronto – Trinity College.

In his free time, Steve also dedicates his efforts to the United Jewish Appeal, Prostate Cancer Canada, and the Bay Street Fore a Cause Foundation, a nonprofit organization of Bay Street professionals who raise funds to support underprivileged children in the GTA. He is also a participant and supporter of the Ride2ConquerCancer, an annual two-day cycling event from Toronto to Niagara Falls in support of cancer research at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.
