Mayor Adams Delivers State of the City

Last Thursday, Mayor Adams delivered his second State of the City address. In his address, Mayor Adams outlined a “Working People’s Agenda” focusing on jobs, safety, housing, and care. Some policy highlights included a planned Apprenticeship Accelerator to connect 30,000 New Yorkers with apprenticeships in the next five years, a Nursing Education Initiative partnership with the City University of New York, and a $375 million investment in public spaces. Mayor Adams also reaffirmed the “moonshot” goal of creating 500,000 new homes throughout the city in the next decade, and called for federal and state aid to assist New York City with the asylum seeker crisis.

Governor Hochul to Deliver FY24 Executive Budget

Governor Hochul will unveil her Executive Budget this Wednesday, February 1. The budget will outline the Governor’s preliminary plan for how to spend $200 billion in New York State. In her State of the State earlier in January, Hochul indicated that housing and public safety would be major priorities for her administration this year. The presentation is expected to begin at 1:00pm. Following the release of the budget, the Assembly and Senate will begin the budget hearing process.

Mayor Adams Announces 21 Judicial Appointments and Reappointments

Mayor Adams has appointed and reappointed 21 judges to Family Court, Criminal Court, and Civil Court. Judge Gigi Parris, Judge Janet McFarland, and Judge Stephanie Schwartz have been appointed to Family Court, and Judge Marty J. Lentz was appointed to Criminal Court. Additionally, three Family Court judges, ten Criminal Court judges, and four interim Civil Court judges were reappointed.
