Katayun Jaffari and Paul Hallgren co-authored an article discussing the current state and what is hoped to be the future accelerated effort of diversifying the boardroom in Today’s General Counsel. State legislators across the country have begun acting on this effort, with California being the first to pass a law requiring publicly traded domestic and foreign corporations with headquarters in the state to have at least one female on the board. By the end of 2021 companies with boards comprised of six or more people will be required to have a minimum of three females. Kathy and Paul provide insight into legislative efforts of other states, including Colorado, New York, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, who are working to improve boardroom diversity.
