Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Robert W. Phelan, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Subrogation & Recovery department, received the nomination of Proctor in Admiralty by the Maritime Law Association of the United States (MLA). The “Proctor” designation once applied to all lawyers qualified to handle maritime litigation, but now is used by the MLA to honor the most distinguished practicing maritime attorneys among its membership.

The Maritime Law Association of the United States (MLA), founded in 1899 and incorporated in 1993, is a professional organization concerned with improving maritime law. The MLA is an affiliate of the American Bar Association (ABA) and has been very influential in the development of international maritime rules and conventions. The association’s objectives include but are not limited to advancing reforms in the Maritime Law of the United States, facilitating justice in its administration, and promoting uniformity in its enactment and interpretation.
